Concert information

Review

The AAO festival is always a great opportunity for us Parisians to discover scandinavian music, whether pop, experimental or folk. We covered a few concerts including The Concretes, worthy successors of Abba, with a zest of added melancoly! Between disco and pop, these swedes warmed up the Point Ephémère this past winter. Lisa Milberg's voice is suave yet spicy and gives a deep sexiness to the band's charming pop tunes.

The Concretes

"What happened to The Concretes?", people asked. Not a single new song in three years from a band that had been as reliable as a Swiss watch, releasing a new album every year.

Time passed and even the band started to wonder, “Whatever DID happen to The Concretes?” Well, of course, there was a lot going on. Life, cycling, egg poaching, gardening, travel, children. And other side projects. One member even joined the circus.

But then songs began to appear.
One crystal Christmas day last year, when everyone was in Stockholm for a drink, they wondered aloud, “Is it time to begin again? Afresh? Refreshed? Can we make an album?” and, after several more, all eight Concretes stood up, raised their glasses and in one voice declared: “YES WE CAN”.
But what songs would they make? DISCO, someone said. YES, YES. They all agreed. A DISCO ALBUM. And that is what they did. Well, maybe not disco In the old euphoric seventies way, but in a Concretes-way.
It's disco in the crack between a smile and a tear. Disco dreaming of being elsewhere.
With less guitar, more keyboards, more bass, deep languorous vinyl grooves, twitching percussion and some good old cowbell – but still with those trademark melodies – the band is finally back with a new album, a new focus, a new lease of life, anew. Renewed.

Venue

Point Ephémère

picture

The Point Ephémère is truly unique. Facing the Seine river, this former warehouse is one of the coolest place to chill out and hang out with friends drinking cheap beers and listening to the edgiest sounds. More than that, the Point Ephémère is a temporary creative interface, pushing for artistic crossovers and multidisciplinary exchanges. You want to see an urban art exhibit or a vjing show ? The Point Ephémère is THE place. Militant, huge, beautiful, avant-gardist, this venue should become your favorite spot.

A swedish festival in Paris is a normal event for people aware of the indie music life. Lots of swedish artists are in paris, to live, to record, to play music or just to discover Paris. The very active swedish Institute offer us each year during few days the opportunity to discover artists for Sweden. Experimented or young artists, disco or indie rock, the line up is always full of surprises. Probably the best way to discover Sweden via Paris !
