Review

Josh T. Pearson is our favorite Parisian American, with a sharp wit, trademark wolly-beard look from down south where American folk music was born and the finger picking skills to go with it.
His shows all have a certain on-the-spot quality and uniqueness, as if he'd come unrehearsed and prepared the setlist right there before the concert. This one is no exception.
With quasi-bilblical lyrics (starting from the very first "Rivers of Babylon" whose lyrics are based on rastafari bilblical ideals) to thirteen minute tracks (the excellent "Country Dumb"), he doesn't take the french audience for granted and makes them take part in his rants, raves and ramblings ("Devil's On The Run").

He seduced us for a night ; ramble on, JTP...

Artist

Josh T. Pearson

Josh T. Pearson is a musician from Texas. In 1996 he formed the short-lived but now critically acclaimed band Lift to Experience, who released one double album, 2001's The Texas-Jerusalem Crossroads, before splitting up soon after. Lift To Experience played live shows and became a favorite of the Denton, TX music scene. They also were played many times on the radio show The Adventure Club with Josh in Dallas on KDGE The Edge. Bella Union saw the band at South By Southwest and they were signed shortly after.

Pearson is currently pursuing a solo career, which so far has consisted of a number of tours, both headlining and supporting. Pearson no longer plays any Lift to Experience songs live.

Pearson has not released an album or much else in the way of recorded material since the demise of Lift to Experience. In the meantime Pearson has been selling a variety of self-produced live recordings at recent gigs, including a bootleg album To Hull And Back and a DVD single Live In Paris. He featured on a guitar and backing vocals on two songs, "Seal Jubilee" and "Trophy" on the Bat for Lashes album Fur and Gold.

The only solo studio-recorded song to be released for almost ten years is a cover of Hank Williams' song "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry", which was released as one half of a split 7" single also featuring Dirty Three. Pearson has notably performed at the All Tomorrow's Parties festival several times over the last few years.

Label

Mute Records

picture

Mute is an independent record label based in the UK. It was founded in 1978 by Daniel Miller and featured several prominent musical acts on its roster such as Goldfrapp, Depeche Mode, Yazoo, Erasure and Fad Gadget.
During 1978, Daniel Miller began recording music using synthesisers under the name The Normal.[1] He recorded the tracks "T.V.O.D." and "Warm Leatherette", and distributed them through Rough Trade Shops under the label name Mute Records. The label was formed initially just to release the one single. "T.V.O.D."/"Warm Leatherette" became a cult hit insuring the future of the label. "Warm Leatherette" was later covered by Grace Jones.
After meeting Robert Rental (who had previously worked with Thomas Leer), Miller began recording and playing live as Robert Rental & The Normal. In 1979 they went on tour supporting the punk band Stiff Little Fingers, who had just released an album that was being distributed by Rough Trade.
